Thread starter pcharm Start date Nov 29, So I've been having this issue for some time now.ABS Speed Sensor Replacement
Randomly, I experience a problem where I'm driving and the truck will jerk as if you are stomping and releasing the gas pedaland the ABS and brake lights will come on together at the same time.
It usually happens when taking off from a standstill, like at a red light. Or when I'm moving slowly, then need to accelerate quickly. Usually, the issue disappears once the truck hits around 30 or 40mph. The vehicle also stalls or tries to stall periodically, and the idle used to be a bit smoother. I've been told by a couple mechanics that it's probably the Throttle Position Sensor.
Can anyone help me out with this situation??? And please fill out your profile so we know what year and engine you're working with. And how many miles and any other maintenance history.
Do you have the CEL on? They also very often light up the REP reduced engine power light and you get to limp home. ABS and brake lights on together are very often a loose or flaky ground, either on the frame rail near the ABS control module, or at the bottom of the radio stack on the passenger side of the transmission hump.
Erratic idle on an I6 is a classic dirty throttle body. Needs to be removed and cleaned every K miles. Well, oddly enough, there's no codes being thrown. I've had it checked numerous times since the start of this issue.Modern vehicles have what is known as an anti-lock braking system.
The purpose of this system is to keep the driver safe by preventing the wheels from locking up as you apply the brakes. In addition, there is a warning light on the dashboard which will illuminate if there is any sort of problem with the anti-lock braking system.
This is a light that you need to take seriously because it is an early warning sign that your braking system needs to be inspected right away. There are many causes which could make an ABS light come on. There could also be a problem with other sensors or components that it communicates with as well. The brake fluid has a lot to do with controlling the braking pressure within an anti-lock braking system.
There is a brake fluid reservoir which holds the fluid of the anti-lock braking system. Sometimes there could be a leak from this reservoir which will cause the fluid levels to drop. Either that or excessive amounts of air may exist within the system. This information then gets transmitted to the anti-lock braking system.
If it turns out that at least one of the wheels is moving too slowly, the anti-lock braking system will increase the pressure of the brake fluid to allow the wheel to move at a normal speed. But if there is a problem with the speed sensor, the anti-lock braking system will detect that and cause the warning light to illuminate on the dashboard.
ABS light and break light on with Random jerking while driving and periodic stalls
The module of the anti-lock braking system can form corrosion after a while. This is actually one of the most common reasons for why there ends up being a problem with the anti-lock braking system. As a result, the ABS light illuminates on the dashboard. But you will need to replace the module after this happens. Some vehicles will perform what is known as a bulb check on the dashboard. These lights will usually turn off by themselves after a certain amount of time. In some instances, there may be a glitch in the bulb check which keeps the ABS warning light illuminated after the bulb check is completed.
If there is one wheel of a vehicle that moves at a different speed than the other wheels, the wheel speed sensor detects this and then notifies the anti-lock braking system. Once this happens, the system will activate the hydraulic pump to increase the amount of brake fluid pressure. Unfortunately, hydraulic pumps tend to get worn out after years of using them. That means if you need to step on the brake pedal quickly to stop your vehicle, then it might not stop as fast as you want it to.
As a result, you could end up in a serious car accident. This is particularly important if the road is slippery or wet. There are different reasons for why the car ABS light would come on.
The main reason is from simply turning on your vehicle. After you put your key in the ignition and turn it on, the computer does a test on the anti-lock braking system to ensure it is functioning normally. But if the ABS light stays on, it means there is a problem with your anti-lock braking system. Sometimes you might be driving, and the ABS light will suddenly come on too.It started when driving a couple weeks back and the abs and traction control light came off and on while driving and steering wheel made a obvious croaking noise whenever it was turned figured this would be power steering low.
I checked the power steering and it was fine, I never heard the steering wheel noise again. And just yesterday there was loud croaking coming from the right side of the engine, not sure where but noise was louder on driver side. Same sort of noise of the steering wheel situation but was not coming from steering wheel. Every time I accelerated or was just driving in general the noise continued.
Then ABS light and traction control light came on randomly after 3 weeks from the previous steering situation. Then the ABS light, traction control light and handbrake light Blinked for a second all at the same time and the car jerked as if I had suddenly braked.
Happened x2. Car is fine today. It is not clear from your description if the noise you are hearing is primarily engine versus chassis suspension, etc. The origin of the noise can be pinpointed though if you request a vehicle noise diagnostic. That the ABS and traction control lights have come on mean that trouble codes have been stored. Those codes should be downloaded and evaluated in the course of a diagnostic. If you request Traction Control diagnostic and repair servicethe responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you.

The next moment, your vehicle jerks slightly before coming to a full stop. This is an uncomfortable sensation, one you may have experienced before, but this time you are greatly concerned. If your car jerks when braking, you need to determine the cause and find the correct solution. These three steps will get you started. Typically, brakes will squeal, squeak or grind, particularly with warped rotors. The problem may only be air in the brake lines. You may also need to replace brake pads and replace or resurface worn rotors.
Lastly, inspect the spare tire to ensure it has sufficient air. Specifically, the system includes sensors, an electronic control module and a hydraulic control unit. Usually, when the ABS system is malfunctioning, a warning light switches on in the instrument panel. Faulty sensor wiring or metal shavings or other debris may be contributing problems — the latter causing false feedback.
Use an ABS scan tool to check for fault codes, which will identify the problem. Finally, when the work is done, the fault code should disappear or you can clear it with your diagnostic tool. Handling simple tasks early on can help you avoid larger issues later, including brake problems. Photo courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

If I let off of gas a couple times when this happens it usually stops but has gotten worse. Hi there. Most of the time when this occurs randomly like this it is because there is a problem with one of the wheel speed sensors.
I usually start by checking the tires first. If one of the tires is an odd size or has a different amount of tread then this will occur. If the tires are fine then I use my scan tool to check the computer for codes. If the lights are coming on then there should be codes in the computer or I will see which sensors are reading incorrectly. It can also be a yaw sensor or a steering angle sensor.

Oddset is sports betting with fixed odds where you compete against the betting operator. If the predictions are correct the odds are first multiplied with each other and then with the amount of the stake. In that kind of bet the player has to predict the end-result of a game. The player predicts whether the result at the end of the normal game-time will be one out of three options: a win for one team, a win for the other team or a draw.
This is a two-way option.
