The PMCC has the largest adult congenital heart disease clinic and the largest Red Blood Cell Disorder Clinic in North America; it is a quaternary referral center for organ transplantation, complex cardiac ablations and device implantation. The fellowship lasts 12 months with time evenly split between cardiac MR and CT. It is the fellow's responsibility, under appropriate supervision, to triage, protocol, monitor and report CMR and CT cases.

The fellows attend and present cases at the weekly, multidisciplinary Adult Congenital Heart conferences. The cardiac section is staffed by a happily integrated group of six total radiologists and cardiologists who also have skills and experience in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiac catheterization in addition to cardiac CT and MRI which contributes to a unique learning environment for fellows.

Faculty in the cardiac section provide dedicated weekly cardiac teaching rounds and multiple weekly educational sessions comprised of case-based and didactic lectures, which include exposure to echocardiography. There are multidisciplinary cardiac rounds three times per week and the fellows have access to chest rounds that also occur twice per week. After the initial 6 months of the cardiac fellowship, candidates have an option to be integrated into a busy chest radiology service 38, Chest CT,chest radiographs per year for one week every month, for the remaining 6 months of the fellowship to allow concurrent training in thoracic imaging.

Forward to the present, Dr. Bodiwala, now a board certified cardiologist, is the inaugural graduate of the University of Kentucky Interdisciplinary Fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging, and a leader in the field of cardiovascular imaging, who has already started lecturing in national forums. Bodiwala might say that landing this opportunity was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. During his general cardiology fellowship, he was exposed to conventional and contemporary cardiac imaging techniques and he began to manifest an interest in reading imaging studies with both radiologists and cardiologists.

Around that same time, Dr. Vincent L. Sorrell came to UK to lead the cardiovascular imaging program and develop an advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship program. After careful consideration, Sorrell chose Bodiwala to be UK's first advanced imaging fellow, working closely with him and Dr. Anil Attili, Dr. Michael Brooks, Dr. Steve Leung and Dr. Bodiwala's knowledge of the program, his familiarity with our facility and people, and the fact that he was already credentialed in other areas of cardiac imaging such as Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology made him the perfect match," Sorrell said.

Advanced imaging, Bodiwala said, has the ability to provide physicians with information previously only available through invasive techniques. With advanced MRI imaging techniques, we can also non-invasively see the heart muscle and valves and their function and impact on the heart," Bodiwala said.

Now with the advanced imaging we can also characterize heart muscle tissue without having to undergo invasive tissue biopsy and be able to make an accurate diagnosis. As he embarks on his new role in a large academic-oriented private practice group in southern Illinois, Bodiwala has no doubt he will return to UK on occasion. During his PhD training he focused on arrhythmia research and specifically shockless defibrillation using optogenetics. He subsequently moved to the US for residency training at Emory University. He plans to pursue a career in cardiac electrophysiology.

Ilton attended medical school at Dartmouth during which time he completed a research year at the Seidman laboratory in Boston funded by the Sarnoff Research Fellowship. He subsequently completed an internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His research interest has been focused around genetic modifiers of the hypertrophic response in animal models and in genetic variants associated with hypertrophy and heart failure.

He has been involved in research within the ARVC Program at Johns Hopkins and has a wider interest in heart failure and cardiac transplant. At this time he plans on pursing an academic cardiology career focusing on clinical research. Outside of his clinical and academic pursuits, he enjoys playing basketball, cooking new dishes and traveling the world whenever possible. He has returned to his hometown of Baltimore for Cardiology fellowship with the intent of pursuing a career as an academic cardiologist.

He is additionally passionate about medical student and resident education, specifically the role of simulation, and stewarded the the PGY-1 Emergency Management curriculum in his senior year of residency.

Outside of cardiology he dares to be an average climber, runner, and cyclist, and has been called both a catastrophic cook and an insufferable dinner guest by nearly all of his peers. Ethan was born in Israel and immigrated to Toronto when he was 6. He began his university studies in Astronomy and Physics but soon changed his focus to chemistry.

He completed his PhD at the University of Toronto on the Microfluidic studies of biological and chemical processes. He subsequently completed both his medical school and internal medicine training in Toronto. Throughout residency he found excitement working in the high paced environment of a coronary care unit, and has been focused on the integration of new materials into cardiovascular research. His research interests include prevention and epidemiology with a focus on obesity related cardiovascular disease.

Outside of the hospital he enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and strolling down to the harbor with his wife to get gelato.

He is excited about continuing his training in Baltimore. Wendy completed both medical school and internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is currently pursuing an American Heart Association post-doctoral research fellowship studying sex differences in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Her clinical and research interests are in the intersection of heart failure and preventive cardiology.

After completing his internship in Kuwait, Hamied joined the Welty Lab at Harvard Medical School as a research fellow primarily focusing on cardiovascular disease prevention research. He studied the determinants of coronary atherosclerotic plaque progression measured by coronary computed tomography angiography in patients with coronary artery disease.

He then went on to complete his residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he continued to do research in cardiovascular prevention. Hamied is passionate about pursuing a career as an academic cardiologist and a physician-scientist in the field of coronary artery disease.

During her undergraduate degree in Bioengineering at the University of Washington, Pranoti worked on building mobile health tools for global health settings, and on developing strategies for implanting pediatric medical devices.

Subsequently, she completed medical training at Harvard Medical School, then returned home for Internal Medicine residency at University of Washington Hospitals, and now she is looking forward to returning to the east coast for Cardiology fellowship! Ultimately, she hopes to integrate clinical experience with knowledge from research to develop tools that can positively impact the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.
